Veterans Day has been around for a long time, but it first started out as Armistice Day. U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11, 1919, to be Armistice Day to honor members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I. The date commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France.
Veterans Day commemorates and celebrates all of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
