July is national ultraviolet (UV) awareness month. UV light is radiated from the sun, which can cause sunburns, wrinkling or leathering of the skin. This can eventually lead to skin cancer. UV radiation from the sun is highest during peak hours, around noon to 4 PM during summer months. The exposure risk is stronger at higher altitudes, clear sunny days and near water or sand.
There are many ways to black UV light such as with protective clothing, wearing a hat, and sunglasses. Staying in the shade will decrease your chances of sunburn and most importantly applying sunscreen every 2 hours.
You should also get annual skin checks, and monitor for any changes in moles size, color, or texture.
